Holey rusted metal, Batman! A reference, a fun treasure hunt. This band is perhaps the only one to get into Circle 1 on their first album. I first listened to them on KEXP.org (https://www.youtube.com/@kexp/) and was blown away. I found them on bandcamp.com, listened, then bought all their stuff. It is that groovy, psychedelic, interwoven pattern craziness that I love. That genre in my head without a doubt.
They become famous quickly. Some folks can't see/listen past the outfits/masks, but whatever. They've been playing jazz festivals, which I get and wonder why at the same time. That they seem to embody contradiction and cohesiveness at the same time is amazing. They also use different time signatures and microtones a lot. Very talented guys.
Two folks do all that music. One person plays a guitar/bass combo instrument, and records/play/layers lots of loops live. It's not only incredible that he keeps track and plays it all, but the DRUMMER KEEPS UP WITH IT ALL TOO! Mindblowingly, almost demented, fun.
The patterns are interesting, upbeat yet moody at the same time. There is a progression from one section of a song to another, but not often repeated. Even though stuff is looped. Sometimes one loop ties two other loops together, both in the pattern and in that sometimes it is used in tying multiple loops together. Like I said, demented fun.
Last bit, it is annoyingly hard to find them on Amazon. I got here, but their Vol. II album came up in a regular search.
